2.4 Building daily habits of engagement

Since we understand the wants of dogs (food, freedom, play and affection), we use teachable moments in daily life to build a habit of engagement.
  • Feeding
  • Exiting doors
  • Going for walks
  • When a dog comes to you for attention
We can also engage dogs in scenarios that dogs typically act up as a way to prevent bad behaviors. They include:
  • Meal times
  • Visitors
We should aim for at least 8-10 interactions with our dogs daily where they offer us engagement (focus and attention).
