4.2 Play

Until now, we have focused on using treats dog to build value in us. Playing with your dog increases the bond with your dog, without the focus on the food.
Why is it important to play with your dog?
  • Builds engagement, which you need to teach dog things
  • Improves relationship with owner. The dog likes you because you are fun
  • Exercise
  • Listen to us when excited (e.g. obedience when meeting dogs)
How to maximize your play?
  • Movement is motivating
  • Reinforcement schedule should be variable (in quantity/duration)
  • Move away from dog
  • Contrast (still – explode)
  • Quality/Intensity of reward
  • Misses can create frustration and increase intensity
